Louis Sabatino
Date of Death: July 8, 1915

Louis Sabatino had a love for music and played several musical instruments. He taught his friend Theodore Angelus how to play and they spent many happy evenings playing together.

Louis became ill and was hospitalized. Sensing that he was near death, he called for his friend to come to University Hospital and asked that he make him a promise. Louis asked Theodore to shatter his guitar over his grave and to never play music again.

Louis Sabatino died on July 8, 1915 and was buried in New Cathedral Cemetery, Section SS, Lot 457.

One Friday evening after the burial, Angelus went to New Cathedral Cemetery and shattered his guitar across his knee beside Sabatino’s grave. Then he buried the pieces of the guitar next to the grave. After a quiet prayer, having fulfilled his promise, Angelus left the cemetery.

In 1950 Louis and two family members were moved to Section VV, Lot 577 to be with other family members. Records do not show if the guitar was moved to the new grave location.
