The story of Isabella Fureschi recalls a tragic day at Druid Ridge Cemetery
1854 - 1909
Isabella Fureschi and her husband Enrico lived on Sharp Street and operated a cigar and confection shop on South Street.
February 12,1909 was a sad day for Isabella. She attended the funeral and burial of a friend, Jennie Childs, at Druid Ridge Cemetery. At the conclusion of the burial service, she joined friends to return home in a horse-drawn carriage. Suddenly the horse bolted and ran and the carriage overturned. Mrs. Fureschi lost her life in the accident. Her friends were injured, but survived.
Isabella Fureschi’s funeral service was held at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church She is buried in Loudon Park Cemetery. Her husband Enrico passed away in the next year and is buried next to Isabella.
The inscription reads:
“A few short years have passed away
Since our loved one passed away
And left this world of sorrow and pain
To sit at Jesus’ feet”
